The practice.

The private risk and security practice of Matt Cooper. The roster is small by design, and no engagement is handed to anyone else.

Why it exists.

Risk rarely stays in one domain. A question that begins with a home network ends up touching a family's privacy, a company's exposure, and a principal's public profile. Most providers are organized around one of those and hand off the rest.

Ares Dynamics is organized around the client instead. Engagements begin with an assessment, and the advice that follows is sized to what it finds. Some clients need a single review. Others keep standing counsel for years.

The name is the one nod to conflict here. Read it as preparation rather than aggression.

Matt Cooper

More than two decades in risk and security. The work has run from protective details and federal disaster response to litigation investigation, enterprise security engineering, and intelligence. Law enforcement has been part of it; those engagements are not discussed.

The current day-to-day is enterprise security engineering across hybrid cloud environments: vulnerability management, incident response, architecture, and risk reporting at executive level.

Most security counsel comes from one of two rooms: executives who have never worked a case, or technicians who have never briefed a board. This practice sits deliberately between.

I have watched controls fail in a disaster zone, a courtroom, and a corporate network. The patterns translate.

How engagements run.

Every situation differs. The sequence does not.

Understand

A call about the problem, and what has made it urgent now.

Assess

A fixed-scope review of where exposure sits, informed by current threat intelligence rather than a checklist.

Advise

A short, prioritized set of recommendations, ordered by consequence and matched to how you actually live and work.

Stay

Standing counsel where circumstances keep moving. Where they do not, the engagement ends rather than renews.

How the practice works.

The roster is capped. Nothing is subcontracted, and no engagement is handed to a junior associate, because there isn't one.

Clients are never named, past work is never cited, and no relationship becomes marketing. An NDA before any substantive conversation is routine.

Scope and price are fixed before work starts. Where this is not the right practice for the problem, you will hear that on the first call rather than after an invoice.

Private security counsel.
